Michael A. Burleson, RPh, Elected to Serve as Member of NABP Executive Committee at Associationís 104th Annual Meeting

Michael A. Burleson, RPh, was elected to serve a three-year member term, representing District 3, on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 104th Annual Meeting, May 17-20, 2008, in Baltimore, MD.

Mr Burleson has been executive director of the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy since 2004. Prior to joining the Board, he held positions such as pharmacy manager with Walgreen Co, staff pharmacist, and was co-owner of three pharmacies. In addition Mr Burleson was director of pharmacy for Muhlenberg Community Hospital where he established unit dose dispensing.

An active member of NABP, Mr Burleson served on the Teller Committee at the NABP 103rd Annual Meeting and was the chairperson of the Committee on Resolutions during the NABP 102nd Annual Meeting. He was also a founder of the Hendersonians Offering a Promising Environment, serving as a member in various capacities from 1983 to 2002, where he had a hand in initiating “Just Say No” and parent to parent programs, among others.

Among his other activities, Mr Burleson is a past president of both the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Alumni Association and the University of Kentucky National Alumni Association, has been an active member of the Kentucky Pharmacists Association since 1974, and was a member of the Tri-County Pharmacists Association. Mr Burleson has received numerous awards including the Bowl of Hygeia in 1991.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, Mr Burleson earned his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy.
