Meeting the Surety Bond Requirement

January 7, 2009 3:51 pm Topics: Dmepos

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, DMEPOS suppliers enrolled in Medicare are required to obtain and submit a $50,000 bond for each National Provider Identifier (NPI) to the National Supplier Clearinghouse. This surety bond requirement is not a requirement of DMEPOS accreditation; however, it is required to retain your Medicare billing number. See the NSC’s Web site for information on surety bonds or visit the US Department of Treasury Web site for a list of certified surety bond companies.
