Massachusetts Governor Patrick Files Bill to Strengthen State’s Regulation of Compounding Pharmacies

Topics: Compounding

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick will file a bill that would strengthen the state’s regulation of compounding pharmacies. The bill would require compounding pharmacies to obtain a special state license and also authorize the hiring of additional pharmacy inspectors, reports the Associated Press. In addition, whistleblower protections for pharmacy workers would be implemented, as well as new penalties for compounding pharmacies that violate state rules. Nonresident pharmacies distributing drugs into the state would be required to obtain a Massachusetts license, and any resident pharmacy being investigated by another state or FDA would be required to report the investigation to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy.
