Massachusetts Department of Public Health Finds Storage and Preparation Problems at Three Compounding Pharmacies

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has sent cease and desist orders to three compounding pharmacies for drug preparation and storage problems that were discovered during surprise inspections. The Boston Globe reports that the issues found at the facilities – OncoMed Pharmaceutical Services of Massachusetts in Waltham, MA; Pallimed Solutions Pharmacy in Woburn, MA; and The Whittier Pharmacist Inc. in Bradford, MA – did not necessitate product recalls. The orders were made public the same day that the state announced three new appointments to the board of pharmacy: Patrick Gannon, chief quality officer of Southcoast Health System; Jane Franke, senior director of performance improvement innovations at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts; and Edmund Taglieri, Jr, executive director of the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. The appointments were made in an effort to ensure that a variety of health care backgrounds are represented on the board.
