Lawrence H. Mokhiber, MS, RPh, Elected NABP Treasurer at Association's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration

Lawrence H. Mokhiber, MS, RPh, was elected to serve as treasurer of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association's 100th Annual Meeting and Centennial Celebration, April 24-27, 2004, in Chicago, IL.

As executive secretary of the New York Board of Pharmacy, Mr Mokhiber provides leadership, liaison, and coordination of tasks for Board activities relating to the practice of pharmacy. Responsible for directing regulatory issues involving 19,000 registered pharmacists, 6,000 registered establishments, and four colleges of pharmacy, he additionally supervises the registration of pharmacies, manufacturers, and/or wholesalers of drugs; administers laws dealing with adulteration and misbranding of drugs; and collaborates with federal, state, and local drug enforcement agencies.

Since 1992, Mr Mokhiber has also been the executive secretary of the New York State Board of Midwifery and in that position he coordinates the activities of the Board of Midwifery in the development of guidelines for practitioners, responds to a wide range of questions relating to scope of practice, provides direction to and support of the 15-member Midwifery Board in the evaluation of the credentials of candidates from other jurisdictions, and oversees regulatory issues.

Mr Mokhiber has succeeded in different roles within the New York Board of Pharmacy; from 1982 to 1987, he was supervisor of Pharmacy Practice and Registration for the Board. In this position, he reviewed and approved applications for registration of pharmacies, manufacturers, and/or wholesalers of drugs; reviewed and approved internship certifications required for admission to the pharmacist licensing examination; reviewed and approved applications for licensure by endorsement (reciprocity); and responded to written and oral requests from the public, professionals, and other agencies concerning pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.

An active participant on NABP's committees and task forces, Mr Mokhiber was a member of the NAPLEX Review Committee from 1989 to 1992; was a member of the Advisory Committee on Examinations (ACE) from 1992 to his election to the Executive Committee in 2003; and chaired ACE from 1993 to 1994 and again from 2001 to 2002.
