Lawrence H. Mokhiber, MS, RPh, Begins Term as NABP President at the Conclusion of the 102nd Annual Meeting

Lawrence H. Mokhiber, MS, RPh, executive secretary of the New York State Board of Pharmacy, began his term as president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP® ) following the Association's 102nd Annual Meeting, April 8-11, 2006, in San Francisco, CA. During his presidency, Mr Mokhiber is committed to continuing to focus on patient safety and enhancing NABP's program and service offerings available to members to assist them in protecting the public health.

As executive secretary of the New York State Board of Pharmacy, Mr Mokhiber provides leadership and coordination of tasks for Board activities relating to the practice of pharmacy. Responsible for directing regulatory issues involving 19,000 registered pharmacists, 6,000 registered establishments, and five colleges of pharmacy, he additionally supervises the registration of pharmacies, manufacturers, and/or wholesale distributors; administers laws dealing with adulteration and misbranding of drugs; and collaborates with federal, state, and local drug enforcement agencies. Mr Mokhiber has also been the executive secretary of the New York State Board of Midwifery since 1992.

Mr Mokiber was sworn in as the 102nd NABP president after serving a one-year term as the Association's president-elect. Mr Mokhiber previously served a one-year term as NABP treasurer and as a member of NABP's Executive Committee. At the conclusion of NABP's 103rd Annual Meeting May 19-22, 2007, in Portland, OR, he will serve a one-year term as chairperson of the Association's Executive Committee.

An active participant on NABP's committees and task forces, Mr Mokhiber was a member of the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination™ Review Committee from 1989 to 1992; was a member of the Advisory Committee on Examinations (ACE) from 1992 to his election to the Executive Committee in 2003; and chaired ACE from 1993 to 1994 and again from 2001 to 2002.

Mr Mokhiber received his master of science in health systems management and administration degree from the Institute of Administration and Management of Union College in Schenectady, NY, and his bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy at Union University in Albany, NY.
