Lawrence H. Mokhiber, BS, MS, RPh, Elected to Serve on Executive Committee at NABP's 99th Annual Meeting
Lawrence H. Mokhiber, BS, MS, RPh, was elected to a one-year member-at-large term on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association's 99th Annual Meeting, May 3-7, 2003, in Philadelphia, PA.
As executive secretary of the New York Board of Pharmacy, Mr Mokhiber provides leadership, liaison, and coordination of tasks for Board activities relating to the practice of pharmacy. Responsible for directing regulatory issues involving 19,000 registered pharmacists, 5,500 registered establishments, and four colleges of pharmacy, he additionally supervises the registration of pharmacies, manufacturers, and/or wholesalers of drugs; administers laws dealing with adulteration and misbranding of drugs; and collaborates with federal, state, and local drug enforcements agencies.
Since 1992, Mr Mokhiber has also been the executive director of the New York State Board of Midwifery and, in that position he coordinates the activities of the Board of Midwifery in the development of guidelines for practitioners, responds to a wide-range of questions relating to scope of practice, and provides direction to and support of the 15-member Midwifery Board in the evaluation of the credentials of candidates from other jurisdictions and oversees regulatory issues.
Mr Mokhiber has played different roles within the New York Board of Pharmacy; from 1982 to 1987, he was supervisor of pharmacy practice and registration for the Board. In this position, he reviewed and approved applications for registration of pharmacies, manufacturers and/or wholesalers of drugs; reviewed and approved internship certifications required for admission to the pharmacist licensing examination; reviewed and approved applications for licensure by endorsement (reciprocity); and responded to written and oral requests from the public, professionals, and other agencies concerning pharmacy laws, rules, and regulations.
As an active participant on NABP's committees and task forces, he was a member of the NABPLEX Review Committee from 1989 to 1992; was a member of the Advisory Committee on Examinations (ACE) from 1992 to his election to the Executive Committee; and chaired ACE from 1993 to 1994 and again from 2001 to 2002.
A Pharmaceutical Society of the State of New York member since 1984, he is also a commissioned officer with the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration, since 1987. Mr Mokhiber received his master of science degree in health systems management and administration from the Institute of Administration and Management of Union College in New York, NY, and his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy at Union University in Albany, NY.
