Law Extends DMEPOS Accreditation Deadline

Topics: Dmepos

In October 2009, President Obama signed into law a bill that delayed the requirement for pharmacies to obtain DMEPOS accreditation – the deadline for accreditation was extended to January 1, 2010.

The bill delayed the requirement that requires DMEPOS accreditation to continue billing Medicare Part B for specific durable medical equipment. This extension does not affect the DMEPOS accreditation requirement for pharmacies to qualify for bidding in a competitive acquisition area.

Pharmacies that supply DMEPOS are required to seek and receive DMEPOS accreditation to maintain Medicare billing privileges. The January 1 deadline is an extension from the previous deadline, which required accreditation by September 30, 2009.
