Iowa Board Supports Bill to Classify Marijuana as Schedule II

Topics: Controlled substances and Medical marijuana

Proposed legislation that would amend the Iowa code to classify marijuana as a Schedule II drug was approved in a vote by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Such a change would allow for medical uses of the drug, and the formal support of a medical marijuana bill follows many months of research, assessment, and prior Board meetings in which members agreed to recommend the scheduling change to the Iowa legislature. The bill also calls for the development of a medical marijuana program. Additional details are available in an MSNBC news report. Information on the prior Board meetings and decisions is available in the November 12, 2010 e-News.
