Iowa Board Adopts New Rules for Pharmacy Closures

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy has adopted new rules regulating pharmacy closures, including a requirement that the pharmacy give the Board, Drug Enforcement Administration, and patients at least 14 days notice of the closure. The new rules also include the provision that a “closing pharmacy may transfer prescription and patient records to a pharmacy that agrees to act as the custodian of the records and is subject to the same confidentiality standards of the operating pharmacy,” as reported by the Dubuque Telegraph Herald.
