Investigation of Counterfeit Drug Network in China Results in 114 Arrests
A four-month investigation by law enforcement in China resulted in the seizure of more than 65 million fake drugs and the arrest of 114 suspects. The criminal network producing and distributing the fake drugs extended over eight Chinese provinces, and an investigation began when police found fake products in pharmacies in the central Henan province, as reported by the Associated Press. China’s Ministry of Public Security stated that “1,000 police officers broke up 117 dens that produced or sold fake medicine via websites or advertisements,” reports the Associated Press. The fake drugs were found to contain starch, corn powder, animal feed, chemical pigments, and other harmful ingredients.
