Health Policy Expert Dan L. Crippen, PhD, Former Congressional Budget Office Director, to Present at the NABP Fall Legislative Conference
The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to present attendees with the opportunity to hear the distinguished Dan L. Crippen, PhD, economist, health policy expert, and former director of the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), provide his expertise on health care issues facing this country during the NABP 2007 Fall Legislative Conference, held September 16-18, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA.
Dr Crippen will present during the educational program “111th Congress and the New Administration: What to Expect” on Tuesday, September 18, from 10 to 11 am. During this program, participants will learn of possible health care issues of interest and concern for the new administration based upon predicted outcomes of the fall 2008 election.
As the fifth director of CBO, serving from 1999 to 2003, Dr Crippen held several senior positions in the White House and US Senate,specializing in issues relating to the federal budget, health care, and retirement. Prior to this, Dr Crippen was a domestic policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan from 1987 to 1989, and a chief counsel and economic policy adviser to the Senate Majority Leader from 1981 to 1985. Additionally, he served as a principal with Washington Counsel, a law consulting firm; an executive director of the Merrill Lynch International Advisory Council; and was a founding partner and senior vice president of the Duberstein Group.
Dr Crippen is currently a consultant for health care providers, including developers of cardiac devices and bio-engineered pharmaceuticals, and serves on several boards of companies in the health care industry. In addition, Dr Crippen is a member of the national nominating committee for the National Association of Securities Dealers and chairs the Quadrennial Social Security Technical Advisory Panel.
Named one of the “50 Most Powerful People in Politics” by George magazine, Dr Crippen focuses much of his research on health care, contributing his articles to various journals and newspapers. He has also shared his expertise with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), serving as chairman of a panel advising NASA on implementing changes after the Columbia disaster. Dr Crippen holds a doctor of philosophy degree in public finance.
