Google Files Suit Against Internet Drug Outlet Operators
On September 21, 2010, Google filed a federal lawsuit against one individual and 50 unnamed defendants allegedly connected with promoting rogue Internet drug outlets. Google announced on February 9, 2010, that it will only accept advertisements from Internet pharmacies in the United States that are accredited through the VIPPS® (Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice SitesCM) program. Google’s suit claims that the defendants violated Google AdWords policies. Google counsel stated in a Google blog post that Internet drug outlets are bad for Google “users, for legitimate online pharmacies and for the entire e-commerce industry.” He added that Google will continue to invest time and money to stop “these kinds of harmful practices.”
