General Henry Hugh Shelton Discusses War with Iraq During Keynote Address at NABP's 99th Annual Meeting

The war in Iraq will be the focus when General Henry Hugh Shelton delivers the Keynote Address at National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) 99th Annual Meeting at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel in Philadelphia, PA, on Sunday, May 4, 2003. Shelton, former senior military advisor to President George W. Bush's administration, still consults regularly with Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard B. Myers.
In his speech, entitled "America's Challenge: Facing Saddam, Terrorism, and an Uncertain Future," Shelton will reflect on challenges to America's national security emanating from the Middle East based on personal contact and discussions with Arab leaders in that region. Other topics he will touch on include winning the war in Iraq and dealing with the aftermath and challenges that lie ahead; facing the challenges of a nuclear and belligerent North Korea; and how to win the war on terrorism.
Shelton has been the recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal, four Defense Distinguished Service Medals, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal of Valor, and the Purple Heart. On October 1, 1997, Shelton became the fourteenth chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, where he successfully made improvements to both the retirement and health care programs and raised the quality-of-life initiatives including the largest pay raise in 18 years for military personnel, a pay table, and bonus reform.
A native of Tarboro, NC, Shelton participated in some of the most important and controversial military operations conducted by the US, including Vietnam, the liberation of Kuwait during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and the restoration of democracy in Haiti.
