Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN, Oregon Pharmacist, Elected NABP Treasurer at Association’s 103rd Annual Meeting

Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN, Oregon pharmacist, was elected to serve as treasurer of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) during the Association’s 103rd Annual Meeting, May 19-22, 2007, in Portland, OR. Prior to the election, Mr Schnabel was a member of the Executive Committee representing District 7.

The executive director of the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy, Mr Schnabel began his employment with the Board in 1994 as compliance director, before being named executive director in 1999. Prior to joining the Board, he held positions such as pharmacy manager, director of pharmacy, and director of Intravenous Services. Mr Schnabel also owned an independent pharmacy consulting practice from 1990 to 1995.

An active member of NABP and the Board, Mr Schnabel has served on committees and several task forces for both organizations. These include the NABP Committee on Constitution and Bylaws, the NABP Task Force on Active/Associate Membership, the Task Force to Improve the Care of Terminally Ill Oregonians, the 69th Legislative Assembly Task Force on Pain and Symptom Management, and the Board of Pharmacy Community Based Care Pharmacy Committee. In addition, Mr Schnabel currently serves on the Oregon Health Care Quality Corporation Board of Directors and is a part of the Oregon Health Information Security & Privacy Collaboration.

Among his other activities, Mr Schnabel has been an active member of the Oregon State Pharmacists Association, serving as vice president in 1990 and on the House of Delegates from 1984 to 1985 and 1994 to 1995. He has also been a member of the Oregon Society of Hospital Pharmacy, the Oregon Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.

A graduate of Oregon State University, Mr Schnabel graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy.
