Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN, Elected to NABP Executive Committee
Gary A. Schnabel, RPh, RN, executive director of the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy, was elected to a three-year member term on the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) Executive Committee during the Association's 99th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA, May 3-7, 2003.
Mr Schnabel began his tenure with the Oregon Board in 1994 as the compliance director, and served in that capacity for five years prior to assuming the executive director position in 1999. An active member of NABP and the Board, Mr Schnabel has served on several task forces and committees for both organizations. These include NABP's Committee on Constitution and Bylaws, NABP's Nominating Committee, the Task Force to Improve the Care of Terminally Ill Oregonians, the 69th Legislative Assembly Task Force on Pain and Symptom Management, and the Board of Pharmacy Community Based Care Pharmacy Committee.
An editor for the Oregon State Board of Pharmacy News, Mr Schnabel has also contributed to other publications. He has been a chapter author for The Oregon Death with Dignity Act: A Guidebook for Health Care Providers, both the first edition in 1998 and the revision in 2000; he served on the editorial advisory panel for Consultant Pharmacy Practice, Second Edition; and published two articles in The Consultant Pharmacist, "Rational For Use of PCA Flow Sheet" and "Pain Assessment: Pharmacists' Challenge in Alternative Care Environments."
Among his other activities, Mr Schnabel is also an active member of the Oregon State Pharmacists Association, serving as vice president in 1990 and on the House of Delegates in 1984-1985 and 1994-1995. He has also been a member of the Oregon Society of Hospital Pharmacists, the Oregon Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. A graduate of Oregon State University, Mr Schnabel graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 1985.
