Funding for Rural Health Care Programs Could Offer Opportunities for Pharmacists

A new pilot program – slated to receive more than $3 million in federal funding – will support the development of rural health networks that can include pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. The Rural Health Workforce Development Program promotes the recruitment and training of emerging health care professionals in rural communities by supporting the development of innovative community-based educational and clinical health training programs. The Rural Health Workforce Development Program pilot is one of many rural health care programs to receive funding, as announced by United States Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius on August 23, 2010.
