FedEx and UPS Under Investigation for Aiding Illegal Online Drug Sellers

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has requested information from FedEx and UPS in relation to an ongoing investigation of illegal online drug sellers and their use of the shipping services to transport products into the US. UPS disclosed in its quarterly earnings statement that the company has received requests for information from “DOJ in the Northern District of California in connection with a criminal investigation relating to the transportation of packages for online pharmacies that may have shipped pharmaceuticals in violation of federal law.” Between 2007 and 2009, both companies were served grand jury subpoenas, and a spokesman for FedEx confirmed that the company is under investigation for allegedly aiding and abetting illegal online drug sellers, reports the Associated Press
