Federal Workgroup Seeks Public Comment on Developing Health IT Measure Concepts

The Quality Measures Workgroup, part of the federal Health Information Technology Policy Committee, seeks public comment on proposed measure concepts, as the Committee works to develop recommendations on policy to advance the development and adoption of a nationwide health information infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information. The Quality Measures Workgroup was formed specifically to develop recommendations for “new clinical quality measures to leverage the evolving health IT infrastructure” as reported in the Federal Advisory Committee Blog. The workgroup is focusing on five domains: patient and family engagement; clinical appropriateness; care coordination; patient safety; and population and public health, and has proposed measure concepts for each of the domains. The proposed measure concepts are reported in the document HIT Policy Committee Measure Concepts (PDF), available on the Department of Health and Human Services Web site. Criteria for public comments are listed in the blog article, and comments on the document will be received until December 23, 2010.
