Federal Funding Will Support Relaunching of Washington PMP

Topics: Prescription monitoring program

The Washington State Department of Health will be able to relaunch its prescription monitoring program (PMP) with new funding received through two federal grants. The department received both a Harold Rogers Grant from the US Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and a National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting Grant from the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Washington had begun implementation of a PMP in 2007, but the program was suspended due to lack of funding. The support of the federal grants will allow Washington to begin implementing a PMP with the aim of protecting patient health.
