FDA Video Encourages Consumers to Lock Up Medications

Topics: Patient safety

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a new video encouraging consumers to securely lock up medications to prevent accidental ingestion by children and misuse by teens or others. FDA stresses that “every year thousands of children are hospitalized – and some die – after taking medicine not meant for them.” Locking up medications can help prevent cases of teens taking prescription drugs to share at "pharm parties" and cases of toddlers taking colorful pills that look like candy. In the video, “Lock it Up: Medicine Safety in Your Home,” FDA pharmacist Connie Jung explains how you can prevent harm by locking up your medicine.
