FDA Takes Action to Shut Down Web Sites Tied to Alleged Counterfeit Avastin Distributor
FDA has taken action to shut down the Web sites of Canada Drugs, an entity owned by Kris Thorkelson, also owner of the wholesale company tied to the distribution of counterfeit cancer medications in early 2012. On September 21, 2012, FDA sent a warning letter to Canada Drugs notifying the company that its Web sites are offering unapproved and misbranded new drugs for sale in violation of US laws. FDA has now requested Internet registrar, Fabulous.com, to suspend more than 3,700 Web site addresses owned by Canada Drugs, according to a Wall Street Journal article. In August 2012, FDA executed a search warrant against US Drugs Inc, another company owned by Thorkelson and a subsidiary of Canada Drugs, suspected of filling orders placed by Canadadrugs.com. “US Drugs voluntarily forfeited its pharmacy and drug wholesale licenses in Minnesota before the search,” Cody Wiberg, executive director, Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, told the Wall Street Journal. More information about the distribution of counterfeit Avastin in early 2012 is available in the Newsroom of the NABP Web site.
