EPA Seeks Comments on Guidance for Management of Unused Prescription Drugs

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) posted its draft guidance document, "Best Management Practices for Unused Pharmaceuticals at Health Care Facilities" (PDF), soliciting comments for managing unused pharmaceuticals. EPA posted the notice as part of its efforts to reduce the amount of pharmaceuticals that are discharged to water bodies. The guidance is targeted at hospitals, medical clinics, doctors’ offices, long-term care facilities, and veterinary facilities, and presents steps that can be taken to identify and manage unused pharmaceuticals.

Comments on the guidance document must be received on or before November 8, 2010. EPA prefers receiving comments by e-mail.
