Title: Effective Communication in Pharmacy Practice and in the Provision of Pharmacist Care

Whereas, a critical component of pharmacy practice and the provision of pharmacist care is effectively communicating, orally and in writing, with patients and other health care practitioners; and

Whereas, communicating effectively continues to be increasingly important in pharmacy practice and in the provision of pharmacist care; and

Whereas, boards of pharmacy are concerned that not all pharmacists may be able to effectively communicate with patients and other health care practitioners; and

Whereas, boards of pharmacy are responsible for ensuring that pharmacists have the necessary skills to effectively communicate with patients and other health care practitioners;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NABP request the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) to review and revise, if necessary, the current communication provisions of the ACPE Accreditation Standards and Guidelines for the Professional Program in Pharmacy Leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (“Standards 2000”) to achieve the desired outcome of pharmacists effectively communicating orally and in writing with patients and other health care practitioners.
