Donna M. Horn, RPh, Assumes Chairpersonship of NABP's 2005-2006 Executive Committee, Receives President's Award
Donna M. Horn, RPh, immediate past president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®), assumed the office of chairperson of the Association's 2005-2006 Executive Committee at the conclusion of NABP's 101st Annual Meeting held May 21-24, 2005, in New Orleans, LA. Ms Horn served one-year terms as the Association's president, president-elect, and treasurer, and six years as an Executive Committee member. For her service as NABP President, the Association bestowed its President's Award upon Ms Horn during the Annual Awards Dinner at the Annual Meeting.
During the term of President Horn, programs expanded and new initiatives were developed that were true to her goals of continuing NABP's patient safety focus, exploring ways to reduce medication errors in community pharmacy practice, and curbing the incidence of counterfeit drugs in the medication distribution system. During her term as President, NABP launched the Verified-Accredited Wholesale Distributors™ (VAWD™) program and the Pharmacist Self-Assessment Mechanism™ (PSAM™), a component of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program.
President Horn requested and the Executive Committee approved the convening of the Task Force to Develop Recommendations to Best Reduce Medication Errors in Community Pharmacy Practice. The Task Force recommendations urged the Executive Committee and NABP to establish peer review programs and freedom and discovery protection legislation to encourage the reporting, data collection, and analysis of medication errors.
Ms Horn has been an active participant in many of NABP's committees and task forces. She has served on the Task Forces on Privacy, Model Guidelines for Formulary Development, Standardization of Technicians' Role and Competencies, and Patient Compliance and Intervention Programs.
In addition to serving on NABP's Executive Committee, Ms Horn is the manager of regulatory affairs for Brooks Pharmacy in Warwick, RI. She is also a member of other professional societies such as the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association, the American Pharmacists Association, and the Boston Druggist Association. Ms Horn received her bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Sciences.
