Dennis K. McAllister, RPh, Begins Term as NABP President at the Conclusion of the 101st Annual Meeting

Dennis K. McAllister, RPh, FASHP, member of the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy since 1996 and Board president from 2004-2005, began his term as president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) following the Association's 101st Annual Meeting, May 21-24, 2005, in New Orleans, LA. During his presidency, Mr McAllister is committed to enhance NABP's presence in state and federal regulatory issues and improving the program and service offerings available to NABP's members.

Currently, Mr McAllister is the assistant dean at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy Glendale Campus. His professional experience includes 18 years as director of pharmacy for not-for-profit community hospitals; four years managing ambulatory, clinical pharmacy practice; and five years managing home infusion, hospice practice.

Mr McAllister was sworn in as the 101st NABP president after serving a one-year term as the Association's president-elect. Mr McAllister previously served a one-year term as NABP treasurer and a three-year term as a member of NABP's Executive Committee. At the conclusion of NABP's 102nd Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, on April 8-11, 2006, he will serve a one-year term as past president and chairman of the Association's Executive Committee.

Since 1996, when he began his term as a member of the Arizona Board, Mr McAllister has been actively involved in NABP. First elected to the Executive Committee in 2001, other Association activities he has participated in include the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation; Task Force to Examine NABP's Data Resources; and Task Force to Examine the Quality and Standards of Internship Requirements.

Other honors Mr McAllister has received include the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Innovations in Teaching Award in 2002; the Arizona Pharmacy Association Faculty Excellence in Pharmacy Administration Award in 2000; Preceptor of the Year from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy in 1997; and he was designated a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Mr McAllister received a bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota.
