Dennis K. McAllister, RPh, Assumes Chairpersonship of NABP's 2006-2007 Executive Committee, Receives President's Award

Dennis K. McAllister, RPh, immediate past president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®), assumed the office of chairperson of the Association's 2006-2007 Executive Committee at the conclusion of NABP's 102nd Annual Meeting held April 8-11, 2006, in San Francisco, CA. Mr McAllister, a member of the Arizona Board of Pharmacy, served one-year terms as the Association's president, president-elect, and treasurer, and three years as an Executive Committee member. For his service as NABP president, the Association bestowed its President's Award upon Mr McAllister during the Annual Awards Dinner at the Annual Meeting.

During the term of President McAllister, the Association has looked inward to enhance its existing programs and continue the pursuit of its mission to protect the public health. He commissioned NABP membership surveys to create a benchmark and determine how the Association's programs and services could be improved to further support NABP members, candidates, and the profession.

Currently, Mr McAllister is Director of Pharmacy at Banner Desert Medical Center. Previously, Mr McAllister was the assistant dean at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy Glendale Campus. In addition, he served 18 years as director of pharmacy for not-for-profit community hospitals; four years managing ambulatory, clinical pharmacy practice; and five years managing home infusion, hospice practice.

Mr McAllister has been an active participant in many of NABP's committees and task forces including the Committee on Law Enforcement/Legislation, Task Force to Examine NABP's Data Resources, and Task Force to Examine the Quality and Standards of Internship Requirements. Over the years, Mr McAllister has received several honors including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Innovations in Teaching Award in 2002; the Arizona Pharmacy Association Faculty Excellence in Pharmacy Administration Award in 2000; Preceptor of the Year from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy in 1997; and he was designated a fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Mr McAllister received a bachelor of science in pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota.
