Delegates Approve Eight Resolutions at the NABP 104th Annual Meeting

Association to collaborate with stakeholders to develop statutory authority to establish a behind-the-counter drug class; inform constituents of issues surrounding teen drug abuse

Delegates from the member boards of pharmacy adopted eight resolutions during the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) 104th Annual Meeting, held May 17-20, 2008, in Baltimore, MD. The resolutions addressed such timely issues as proposing national standards for “TALL MAN” lettering for look-alike drug names; encouraging state boards of pharmacy to uniformly register pharmacy interns and work with American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education to establish a uniform date within the pharmacy curriculum to begin internship registration; convening a task force on uniform prescription labeling requirements; convening a task force to study the feasibility of standardized education and training requirements for the registration or licensure of pharmacy technicians; convening a task force to review medication collection and disposal programs; collaborating with interested stakeholders to develop statutory authority to establish a behind-the-counter class of drugs; and informing constituents, through NABP newsletter programs, of the critical nature of the issues surrounding abuse of medications by teens and the important role of the boards of pharmacy and pharmacists. In addition, one recognition resolution was passed.

The complete text of the resolutions will be available on the NABP Web site, www.nabp.net, at the end of May 2008, and will also be published in the forthcoming special Annual Meeting issue of the NABP Newsletter.
