Published in the September 2008 Delaware State Board of Pharmacy Newsletter

Whenever the pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) of a pharmacy in the state of Delaware leaves their position, the Delaware State Board of Pharmacy should be notified of the change. Regulation 3 of the Delaware Pharmacy Act provides for PIC requirements and responsibilities. This regulation includes, but is not limited to, the requirement that the new PIC appears before the Board for an interview if this person has never held a like position in the state of Delaware. In addition, a complete inventory of all medica¬tions covered under 16 Del. C, Chapter 47 will be taken by the present and prospective PIC. Inventories are required to have the name and address of the registrant, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) number associated with that registrant, the date and time that the inventory was completed, and the names of the pharmacists performing the inventory. It is the recommendation of the Office of Controlled Substance (OCS) that the incoming and outgoing pharmacists take the inventory at the same time, either at the start or the close of the business day. A copy of this inventory should be forwarded to the attention of OCS with another copy retained on the premises for a period of at least two years.
