DEA Plans Second National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
To provide a safe means for the disposal of unwanted, unused prescription medications, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is planning a second National Prescription Drug Take Back Day to take place Saturday, April 30, 2011. This event will continue efforts to help rid the nation’s medicine cabinets of potentially dangerous, unwanted prescription drugs, particularly controlled substances, thus helping to eliminate a major source of abused prescription medications. The first National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, September 25, 2010, saw participation from 3,000 state and local law enforcement agencies and collected approximately 242,000 pounds of medications as reported in an October NABP news article. Additional information about the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is available on the DEA Web site.
