DEA Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conference to be Held in West Palm Beach, FL
In an effort to assist pharmacy personnel in identifying and responding to potential diversion activity, DEA will be hosting regional one-day Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conferences. The one-day regional conferences will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012, and repeated on Sunday, March 18, 2012, in West Palm Beach, FL. In an invitation to the conference, DEA Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Diversion Control, Joseph Rannazzisi, notes that the agency relies on DEA registrants to remain diligent in complying with controlled substance laws and regulations and to be vigilant in detecting and preventing diversion in any form. “As dispensers of controlled substances, pharmacists and pharmacy employees are often the last line of defense in preventing diversion,” states Rannazzisi.
Each one-day Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conference is open to Florida pharmacy personnel (pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, or loss prevention personnel) who are employed by pharmacies or hospitals/clinics that are registered with DEA. DEA notes that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who attend can earn continuing pharmacy education credits.
Details about the conference, as well as links to the conference agenda and online registration, are available on the DEA Web site. There is no fee to register for the conference and registration must be completed by March 12, 2012. Any questions regarding this conference may be directed to ODLL@usdoj.gov.
