Counterfeit Distributor Pleads Guilty to Federal Charges
Robin Han, a New Zealand citizen, has pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the large-scale distribution of fake erectile dysfunction drugs into the United States. Han pleaded guilty to three criminal counts related to his trafficking of counterfeit drugs and faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $6 million, indicates an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) news release. Homeland Security Investigations began the investigation that led to Han’s arrest in 2006, after customs officials in California intercepted a parcel shipped from China that contained counterfeit Cialis®. Han was identified as the sender, and, “according to the case indictment, Han advertised the sale of counterfeit pharmaceuticals on a number of websites, including alibaba.com,” indicates the ICE news release. US Attorney André Birotte, Jr, stated that "The Department of Justice will continue to work with all of its law enforcement partners at both the federal and local levels – to help secure federal convictions that should send a strong message to international counterfeiters like Mr. Han."
