California Board Signs Contract to Use the NAPLEX

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to announce that the California State Board of Pharmacy has signed an agreement for California to use the North American Pharmacist Licensure Examination™ (NAPLEX®) as a requirement for pharmacist licensure.

NABP and the California Board had been actively negotiating the contract since the passing of Bill Number SB 361, which includes a provision requiring those seeking licensure from the California State Board of Pharmacy to sit for the NAPLEX beginning January 1, 2004.

More than 400 candidates have already registered to take the NAPLEX for California. Those registered candidates who meet the eligibility requirements will soon receive their Authorization to Test letter and will be able to schedule their NAPLEX examination appointment.

"We [NABP] are extremely pleased that the California Board has signed this contract; with this signing, NABP is giving California the opportunity to utilize the benefits of the NAPLEX," says NABP President Donna S. Wall.

The NAPLEX is administered daily through Prometric testing centers located nationwide.
