Bill to Increase Penalties on Pill Mills Introduced to US House

A bill (HR 1065) that would implement provisions to fight prescription drug abuse, with a particular focus on fighting unscrupulous pain clinics, has been introduced in the US House. The “Pill Mill Crackdown Act of 2011” was introduced by US representative Vern Buchanan (FL-13) and includes provisions to support state-based prescription drug monitoring programs, to implement tougher sentences for convicted pill mill operators, and to reclassify hydrocodone combination drugs as Schedule II controlled substances. The bill has been referred to committee.
