ASOP Shares Information on Global Initiatives for Internet Pharmacy Safety With International Stakeholders in Asia

The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP) presented information on illegal online drug sellers and its efforts to protect patients from the counterfeit and substandard drugs often distributed by such entities at a recent forum in Seoul, Korea. ASOP’s presentation was part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation’s (APEC) Life Science Innovation Forum Workshop on Medical Products Safety and Public Awareness and Establishing of a “Single Point of Contact System” that took place on May 21-23, 2013. Government officials, law enforcement agencies, and health care stakeholders from more than 20 countries were in attendance at the workshop, and attendees included FDA and the US Department of Commerce. ASOP also presented a seminar, “Fake Medicines and the Internet – Protecting Patients in Japan and Overseas,” coordinated with the Japanese Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) at the JPMA’s Tokyo office on May 27, 2013. Participants included Japanese government officials and health regulators.
