ASOP Develops Policy Solutions Ensuring Patient Access to Legitimate Internet Pharmacies
The Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP) seeks to protect patient safety and ensure patient access to safe and legitimate online pharmacies and is led by a steering group of stakeholders including the American Pharmacists Association, Eli Lilly & Company, LegitScript, and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. Observers, including NABP, support the ASOP mission, participate in meetings, and offer information. ASOP develops policy solutions and principles for potential federal legislation that will help create a regulatory environment in which only legitimate online pharmacies that sell FDA-approved medicines to United States patients have access to the Internet services and Internet payment services needed to establish online pharmacies. To that end, ASOP aims to engage relevant administrative agencies, raise awareness in Congress, and educate government policymakers. ASOP also develops data and educates patients and health care providers. ASOP recently launched its Web site, which provides more information on the organization's goals.
