Antibiotic Awareness Campaigns Underway in US and Internationally
CDC’s annual Get Smart About Antibiotics Week is being observed November 12-18, 2012, to promote awareness about the problem of antibiotic resistance and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use. The campaign is aimed toward both the general public and health care providers. CDC coordinates the work of the agency’s "Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work" campaign with state-based appropriate antibiotic use campaigns, non-profit partners, and for-profit partners. Promotional materials and additional resources are posted on the CDC Web site in the section, Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work. Six updated fact sheets are available to assist health care providers in educating patients. The 2012 observance also marks the third year of an international collaboration, and coincides with European Antibiotic Awareness Day and awareness weeks in Australia and in Canada.
