Nominees for the Open Officer Position of President-elect on the Executive Committee
Joseph L. Adams, BS, RPh, Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
The president of NABP is important to setting the course for the Association and leading the Executive Committee. Please describe what NABP should consider as future pathways for supporting and coalescing the states into a unified voice.
The president of NABP must be a consensus builder. With NABP staff, we must reach out to accountable care organizations and other health care professions. Much like what took place at the recent Tri-Regulators Conference (boards of medicine, nursing, and pharmacy), we must share our views over the ever changing health care delivery system and the value that pharmacists can bring to the table. NABP belongs to the member boards. We need to expand our state outreach programs through more frequent member seminars and webinars. Never has there been a more critical time for this support, considering shrinking state funding. We have the experts within our member states. We must seek them out and develop this talent-rich pool for our profession. With these efforts, there is no challenge we cannot meet.

The president of NABP is important to setting the course for the Association and leading the Executive Committee. Please describe what NABP should consider as future pathways for supporting and coalescing the states into a unified voice.
I believe NABP should consider the following 10-point plan as the future pathway for supporting and coalescing the states into one unified voice. Collectively and cooperatively, state boards of pharmacy should (1) identify common needs and goals, (2) prioritize objectives, (3) increase communication, (4) form new partnerships with one another, (5) share information more effectively, (6) improve processes, (7) embrace new methodologies, (8) learn from one another, (9) find new solutions for old problems and (10) foster a strong spirit of cooperation that ensures future successes.
For the state boards of pharmacy, NABP is a common unifier that brings states together — into one body and one voice — for the purpose of promoting public health and protecting patient safety.

Nominee for the Open Officer Position of Treasurer on the Executive Committee
Edward G. McGinley, MBA, RPh, New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy
Why are you interested in serving NABP in the capacity of treasurer, and how would you advise NABP to monitor and prepare for the uncertain economic environment in the future?
My interests have always gone beyond the clinical aspects of the profession. My business education and professional experience, previous nonprofit volunteer service, and three years of service on the Executive Committee are all reasons why I have an interest in serving NABP as treasurer. NABP programs and services have grown significantly in the uncertain economic environment of the past five years. This growth has been decisive, well thought-out, and aligned with NABP’s mission to serve state boards and the public. I would advise NABP to continue to stay focused on initiatives that meet our mission statement, as investments in these types of programs will drive demand, deliver value, and continue to sustain the strong fiscal performance of the Association.

Nominee for the District 1 Open Member Position on the Executive Committee (three-year term)
James T. DeVita, BS, RPh, Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy
What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?
The role of an NABP Executive Committee member is to represent the interests of the member boards of pharmacy, individually and collectively, in realizing their mission to protect the public health. Executive Committee members ensure that NABP is fulfilling its duty to support member boards in achieving their goals by providing appropriate programs and services to meet their needs.
The health care delivery model is a constantly evolving environment of practice innovations and changing patient needs. This evolution has the potential to greatly improve patient care, but also will create pressures on the system’s resources, such as primary care, the drug supply, and the distribution channel. This environment will also initiate pharmacy practice models that are not addressed by current regulatory requirements. Factors such as interstate and international communication among regulators are going to be essential to future success.
It is critical for NABP to support state boards of pharmacy in the identification of potential risk in pharmacy practice models and in the development of appropriate regulatory barriers to protect patient safety.

Nominee for the District 2 Open Member Position on the Executive Committee (three-year term)
Susan Ksiazek, BS, RPh, New York State Board of Pharmacy
What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?
The Executive Committee's charge is to operationalize the mission of NABP, which is "...developing, implementing, and enforcing uniform standards for the purpose of protecting the public health." It responds to the directives of the member boards, and provides them with tools to support the shared mission of public protection. The Executive Committee listens to each, and finds the commonalities so that all may be served. The process is collaborative, using the collective breadth of Executive Committee member experience and expertise.
Safety events and drug shortages continue to place health and welfare at risk. NABP's presence at the national stakeholders' table has never been more important, so as to ensure that resulting regulatory and process changes keep quality and public protection at the forefront.

Nominees for the District 5 Open Member Position on the Executive Committee (three-year term)
Randy L. Jones, BS, RPh, South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy
What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?
As a member of the NABP Executive Committee, my primary goal would be to continue to foster the high ideals of our profession, always keeping the best interest of the public paramount in the process. The agenda or platform of health care in general is truly the patients’ agenda; it is not ours.
I believe the future of NABP can be that of a leader by further developing relationships between the various interdisciplinary practitioners. In this development, an increased continuum of care can be provided at all levels of the health care industry, thereby resulting in the best possible outcomes. I also believe NABP’s vision would be to continue to provide state boards with uniform standards whenever possible and to support the boards enforcing these standards.

What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?
The committee member should listen to the concerns of the represented board members and present those concerns to the Executive Committee in as unbiased a format as possible. The committee member must be willing to study, research, and present on the issues or conflicts brought before the committee.
We must be able to provide guidance for the member boards so that the pharmacists they direct can provide the proper pharmaceutical care to their patient population, no matter where that patient may reside. It is our duty to protect the health, safety, and welfare of all patients we serve. NABP has the responsibility to provide the tools and direction our pharmacists need to ensure that they are competent and professional in every aspect.

What do you see as the role of an NABP Executive
Committee member, and what is your vision for the future of NABP?
The role of the Executive Committee is to work with the Executive Director/Secretary to ensure that the business, property, and affairs of the Association are properly managed. The Executive Committee provides strategic direction for the staff of NABP and monitors the operations of the Association. An Executive Committee member that represents a district should periodically contact member boards to solicit input on matters being considered by the Executive Committee. My vision for NABP is simply for it to carry out its mission to assist “its member boards and jurisdictions in developing, implementing, and enforcing uniform standards for the purpose of protecting the public health.” NABP should not replace the boards, but it does play a valuable role in providing certain services.
