Electronic Licensure Transfer Program®(ELTP®)

Licensure Transfer Processing Time

  • NABP is experiencing technical difficulties, resulting in an increased processing time of four to six weeks for the online Preliminary Application for Transfer of Pharmacist Licensure.
  • Applicants are encouraged to continue using the online application as the issues pertain to the internal maintenance application.
  • Collection of information through the online application has not been disrupted.
  • NABP will continue to post up-to-date information as it becomes available through the ELTP section of the NABP Web site.
  • If you previously submitted a paper-based application that is currently in process with NABP, please do not resubmit an online application.

License Transfer Package Information and Forms

Online Application now available

ELTP enables licensed pharmacists to transfer their existing pharmacist license from one state or jurisdiction to another, through the uniform licensure requirements recognized by all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The system serves as a clearinghouse that screens the applicant's licenses for disciplinary actions and verifies background information.

The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) utilizes the Preliminary Application as a means to obtain information about the various credentials that are needed to make a decision about your request for licensure transfer. Please be aware, however, that NABP is not the entity that determines your eligibility for licensure transfer; this decision is made by the state board of pharmacy in accordance with the laws of the state into which you are seeking to transfer licensure.

Carefully follow the instructions when completing the Preliminary Application. Make certain that all provided information is accurate and all sections are completed, and that the application is either data entered or typewritten and signed by you, the applicant. Incomplete applications will be returned to you, and will result in a delay in the processing of your licensure transfer request. NABP will begin processing your licensure transfer application once it is complete.

Before submitting the Preliminary Application to NABP, you should contact the state board of pharmacy to which licensure transfer is being requested in order to determine the state's requirements for licensure transfer. This license should be currently active, unrestricted, and in good standing.

The fee for processing the Preliminary Application is $300 for the first state to which you are applying for licensure transfer and $50 for each additional state, if the request for additional states is submitted at the same time and on the same application form as the first state. Payment must be in the form of a money order, bank draft, or certified check made payable to NABP; personal checks or cash will not be accepted.

Important Information about the Licensure Transfer Process

Many states and jurisdictions require applicants for licensure transfer to successfully complete the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination® (MPJE®).

Please be sure to contact the board(s) of pharmacy in the state(s) to which you wish to transfer your license to determine:

  • Requirements for licensure transfer
  • Whether or not successful completion of the MPJE is required

If the MPJE® is a requirement, click here for information and to register for the MPJE.
