1. I am trying to locate a copy of the NABP Model State Pharmacy Act and Model Rules. How can I obtain a copy of this publication?
The Model State Pharmacy Act and Model Rules of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (Model Act) provides the boards of pharmacy with model language that may be used when developing state laws or board rules. This publication is available as a free download on the NABP Web site.

2. I am trying to locate a copy of the recently revised NABP Model Rules for the Licensure of Wholesale Distributors. How can I obtain a copy of this publication?
The NABP Model Rules for the Licensure of Wholesale Distributors was most recently updated and released in February 2008. A copy of the revised Model Rules is available on the NABP Web site

3. Our organization is interested in providing continuing pharmacy education. How can our organization be recognized as an accredited provider of continuing pharmacy education?
The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) provides accreditation for providers of continuing pharmacy education. ACPE contact information is provided below:

4. Does NABP publish a state-by-state comparison of drug and licensing laws that addresses topics such as pharmacy licensure requirements, continuing education requirements, drug product selection, pharmacist/pharmacy technician census data, or dispensing authority of health care professionals?
The NABP Survey of Pharmacy Law serves as a guide through the maze that is pharmacy law. Through its summary charts and explanations, the Survey shows how the state boards of pharmacy are organized, how they function, and their requirements for licensure (pharmacist, pharmacy technician, pharmacy, and wholesale distributor) and licensure transfer. The Survey also contains information on state electronic prescription transmission, continuing education, drug product selection, and patient counseling requirements, as well as pharmacist/pharmacy technician census data and dispensing authority of health care professionals.

The NABPSurvey of Pharmacy Law is issued annually and is available for purchase via the NABP Web site. The newest edition (2008) is available exclusively on CD-ROM.

5. Can you direct me to the NABP position paper on drug importation?
The NABP Position Paper on the Importation of Foreign Prescription Drugs is available as a free download on the NABP Web site.

6. Is it possible to obtain and search through state rules, regulations, and laws specific to the practice of pharmacy?
NABPLAW® Online is NABP’s searchable database that contains pharmacy laws and regulations for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The database now includes wholesale and controlled substance regulations. It is available by subscription. A free NABPLAW demonstration is available on the NABP Web site. Subscription information is as follows:

  • 2-5 users: $2,000
  • 6-10 users: $3,000
  • 11-15 users: $4,000
  • Unlimited Corporate (16+ Users) $5,000

7. I am interested in learning more about a career as a pharmacist. Where can I obtain more information?
The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) provides information on pharmacy career options, pharmacy school admission information, and other student resources. Pharmacy education and career information is available on the AACP Web site.

8. I am interested in obtaining a list of pharmacies registered or licensed by a board of pharmacy. How can I obtain this list?
For a listing of pharmacies registered or licensed by a particular state board of pharmacy, contact that board of pharmacy directly. Contact information for all of the boards of pharmacy is available on the NABP Web site.
