Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination® (FPGEE®)
Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long will it take until I receive my score report?
Scores from the October 1, 2009 FPGEE are now available.

  1. For those obtaining a passing score on the October 1, 2009 FPGEE:
Candidates for FPGEC Certification must also successfully complete both the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT) in order to obtain FPGEC Certification.

The minimum score for the TOEFL is a score of 213 for the computer-based TOEFL and 550 for the paper-based TOEFL. The minimal passing score for the TSE is a score of 50.
The minimum score for the TOEFL iBT is 24 for Writing, 26 for Speaking, 18 for Listening, and 21 for Reading. Candidates must attain passing scores in each of the four sections reported on one official score report as a result of one testing session. Official score reports with a less than minimum score in any section will not be considered.
Please request that TOEFL/TSE Services submit an official report of your passing TOEFL and TSE scores or the TOEFL iBT score directly to the FPGEC using institution code 9103.

If you have met all the requirements for certification, your FPGEC Certificate will be mailed under separate cover within the next few weeks.

  1. If you did not attain the minimum passing scaled score of 75 on the October 1, 2009 FPGEE and wish to apply to retake the FPGEE, you must:

1. complete a new Application Form;
2. submit the completed Application Form along with a certified check, cashier’s check, or money order, payable in US funds through a US bank for $600; and
3. submit two recent and identical photographs of passport size and quality.
Before you will be accepted to take the examination you must be qualified through the re-evaluation of credentials process.

NABP will re-evaluate the documentation previously submitted along with your Application Form in order to qualify you to retake the FPGEE. If there is additional documentation required, NABP will notify you in writing.

An Application Form can be secured by calling (847/391-4406) or e-mailing NABP at custserv@nabp.net.

2. If I have questions about my October 1, 2009 score, is it possible to have my examination validated?
On occasion, a candidate may believe that the score reported is not accurate. Please note that prior to the release of your FPGEE score, all scores are carefully validated. You will be able to have your FPGEE score verified for a fee of $100 for each examination.
The fee must be submitted in the form of a money order, bank draft, or a certified check payable to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. The request to have your October 1, 2009 examination verified must be submitted in writing and the $100 fee must accompany the letter. In your written request you must include your name, EE #, address, and e-mail address. You will be informed in writing of the score review within two to four weeks. The request for validation must arrive at NABP prior to April 5, 2010.

3. What if I fail the examinations? How do I reapply?
If you fail the FPGEE, you may apply to take the examination again. If you choose to reapply, you must follow the directions in the FPGEC Application Bulletin.

4. When will the next FPGEE be held?
The next FPGEE will be held April 19, 2010.

5. Where will it be administered?
The April 19, 2010 FPGEE will be administered at over 200 Pearson VUE test sites in the continental United States. For more detailed information about the FPGEE administration, see pages 21-26 of the FPGEC Application Bulletin.

6. May I bring food and drink to the FPGEE?
Yes, you may bring food and/or drink to the FPGEE. However it must be stored in the secure storage area and may only be accessed during the 30-minute break period.

7. What if I finish the first half early?
You may not leave the test building. The second half of the FPGEE will begin approximately three hours and fifteen minutes after the start of the examination. This will allow time for the first section, being two hours and 45 minutes of testing time, and the 30-minute break for a lunch.

8. When is the deadline for registering for the FPGEE?
For the April 19, 2010 FPGEE, qualified candidates must sign up for the examination in specified time frames:

  1. Candidates may register with NABP for the April 19, 2010 FPGEE from November 9, 2009 until April 5, 2010.
  2. Next, candidates must schedule their appointment to test with Pearson VUE November 16, 2009 through April 12, 2010.

9. Is my previous Authorization To Test (ATT) still valid?
Previously issued ATTs are no longer valid. You must complete all registration steps in order to obtain a new ATT for the April 19, 2010 FPGEE.

10. If I have been accepted to take the April 19, 2010 FPGEE, do I have to take it on that date?
You have the opportunity to take the test on one of two consecutive dates. The only exception to this two consecutive opportunities rule is if you are unable to take the second examination because you cannot receive a visa or have a serious health or work related problem that prevents you from taking the second examination and NABP receives a copy of the visa denial from the issuing body or official documentation from a health provider or from the workplace.

11. What if I want to change my test date?

  1. If April 19, 2010 is your first chance to sit for the FPGEE administration and you have registered with NABP, received an ATT, and have scheduled an appointment to test, you must notify Pearson VUE before April 12, 2010 that you wish to cancel your April 19, 2010 FPGEE. You will then be eligible to register for the September 30, 2010 FPGEE after June 21, 2010. If extreme circumstances require you to cancel after April 12, you will be required to pay a re-sitting fee of $125 to receive a new ATT to schedule an appointment for the next FPGEE. Fees must be submitted by certified check or money order in US funds through a US bank made payable to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. Your name as it appears on your FPGEC application and your EE number must be indicated on your payment. Once your fee has been received, you will be required to register again with NABP to test and to receive a new ATT.
  2. If April 19, 2010 is your second and last chance to sit for the FPGEE administration and you do not take the examination (for reason other than health, work, or visa related problem), then your record will be closed, all fees will be forfeited, and you will have to reapply to take the FPGEE. If, however, after registering or scheduling your April 19, 2010 examination you need to cancel for a health, work, or visa matter and documentation is forwarded to NABP then, at NABP’s discretion, you may be allowed an additional opportunity as long as the time periods in 9A are met. NABP must be notified if you cannot take the FPGEE during any of the assigned testing opportunities.

12. What if I want to change my test city?
If after scheduling for the April 19, 2010 FPGEE, you would like to change your test site, you must contact Pearson VUE.

13. What will happen if I register and schedule for the examination and I don’t show up?
If you register and schedule and then fail to show for the April 19, 2010 examination, you will forfeit all fees and your FPGEC program file and record will be closed. You will need to reapply if you wish to take the FPGEE at a later date.

14. As a first-time candidate what if I cannot take the examination at either time?
As a first-time candidate and you cannot take the examination at either time (April 19, 2010 or the September 30, 2010 administration), your record will be closed and all fees will be forfeited unless you have a visa, health, or work-related problem and documentation has been submitted to NABP to verify the problem. You will need to reapply if you wish to take the FPGEE at a later date.

15. If I have not yet applied, can I still apply to the FPGEC program?
Yes. NABP continues to accept FPGEC applications.

16. What do I do if I have changed my e-mail address?
If you change your e-mail address you must notify the FPGEC in writing of the change, and include both the old and the new e-mail address in the written notification. Please make certain to sign your written request with your signature as it appears on your FPGEC application form.

17. How do I report a testing irregularity or suspicious incident?
If you have observed a possible testing violation, you can submit a report on a suspected examination irregularity, an act of unethical behavior, or a breach of security through NABP's examination tip site or contact NABP's Customer Service. NABP examinations are administered under strict security measures, and incidents that compromise the content of NABP examinations are treated confidentially and are investigated fully.
