Licensure Transfer Processing Time

  • NABP is experiencing technical difficulties, resulting in an increased processing time of four to six weeks for the online Preliminary Application for Transfer of Pharmacist Licensure.
  • Applicants are encouraged to continue using the online application as the issues pertain to the internal maintenance application.
  • Collection of information through the online application has not been disrupted.
  • NABP will continue to post up-to-date information as it becomes available through the ELTP section of the NABP Web site.
  • If you previously submitted a paper-based application that is currently in process with NABP, please do not resubmit an online application.

1. How can I get a preliminary application?
Click here to begin Online Registration or click here to download application form.

2. How long does the processing take in your office?
NABP processes license transfer applications within four to six weeks. However, time may vary depending on the state of original licensure, whether or not discipline has ever been imposed on a license(s), and how many different pharmacist licenses an applicant holds.

3. How much do I have to pay to have my license transferred?
The fee to transfer your license is $300 for the first state and $50 for each additional state provided that you send the requests in at the same time. This means that you have to apply on the same application at the same time that you have applied for your first state. One state – $300, and $50 for each additional state. If the applicant wants to go to two states, send $350, three states, send $400, etc.

4. Do you accept company checks for licensure transfer payments?.
Yes, we do accept company checks for licensure transfer payments.

5. Do I have to be licensed a year before I can go to a particular state?
Please contact the board of pharmacy in the state you are seeking licensure for its individual state requirements.

6. I can’t remember how many pre-licensure hours I had before I sat for the NAPLEX.
Most states require you to have a minimum of 1,500 internship hours before you can sit for the NAPLEX. Please contact your state board of pharmacy for the exact number of pre-licensure hours that you filed with the state board. A listing of state board phone numbers appears on our Web site.
